The vehicle check-in time for ferry services between Stornoway and Ullapool has been increased to one hour.

It means drivers and their vehicles have to be in line 15 minutes earlier than at present.

The changes will start on October 26.

It follows concerns about traffic congestion, especially at Ullapool, where the sea front has been grid-locked at ferry times when late traffic arrives at the same time as the vessel is unloading.

The issue appears to mainly affect Ullapool but the check-in time for both ports has been extended to avoid confusion.

A Cal Mac spokesman said: "It is important that ferry traffic does not adversely affect traffic flow on public roads around the ports and we are hopeful this alteration to check-in times will address the issue.
