Hebrides News

Both inter-island ferries have cancelled their afternoon sailings due to westerly gale force winds today.

Barra passengers are urged to travel on an additional sailing on Tuesday. Monday’s ferry is cancelled and it looks unlikely the ship will operate on Wednesday. The MV Isle of Lewis will depart Castlebay at 8am Tuesday.

The MV Lord of the Isles will make an unscheduled sailing between Lochboisdale and Mallaig on Tuesday to carry traffic disrupted by today’s cancellation. The vessel leaves South Uist at 10am when gale force winds are forecast to ease.

Wednesday’s ferry timetable is in doubt due to the bad forecast and affected South Uist passengers are advised to consider travelling on Tuesday.

The MV Hebrides will tie up for the day when she arrives in Tarbert. Sailings to Skye and North Uist are cancelled. The ship will depart at 5am for Lochmaddy to get into position for Tuesday’s  timetable.
