High winds and rough seas are causing disruption for Western Isles ferry services.

Both inter-island ferries have cancelled their sailings today.

The MV Isle of Lewis is storm bound in Castlebay. Weather permitting, she intends to complete a crossing tomorrow but has brought forward her departure time to 4am.

The MV Hebrides did not venture out in the morning. The forecast is for improved weather in the afternoon and the vessel will operate an amended timetable. She will sail from Harris at noon and will divert to Lochmaddy to pick up delayed passengers for Skye The rest of the public holiday sailings is likely to operate as scheduled.

The Lochboisdale ferry is now repaired after being out of action last week. But rough seas has resulted in her service for South Uist being cancelled today.

With conditions better than originally forecasted, the Stornoway ferry will operate her Boxing Day run with one return trip to Ullapool in the afternoon.
