The Barra ferry, MV Isle of Lewis, failed to sail this morning due to a "technical fault."

After two days of cancelled sailings due to weather, the vessel was scheduled to depart Castlebay at the later time of 11am.

However, the ship was unable to set to sea.

Engineers are working to try to resolve the issue with the hope of making a crossing in the afternoon.

An alternative route to the mainland is via Eriskay for the weather delayed 2pm Lord fo the Isles' sailing from Lochboisdale to Mallaig. There will be an additional sailing from Ardmhor to carry passengers across.
