Hebrides News

The MV Hebrides has run aground on the shore at Lochmaddy.

The Cal Mac vessel apparently suffered an engine problem and appeared to speed ahead past the pier.

The ship hit pontoons at the yacht marina immediately in front of the linkspan and veered to port before crashing into the rocky shoreline opposite.

Passengers on board the vessel have since been taken off.

All sailings on the Uig triangle route served by the Hebrides are cancelled today.

Cal Mac said the cancellations is due to "technical problems."

The shipping operator said: “An update will be provided as soon as more information is available.

“We are sorry for any disruption caused to our customers.”
