Western Isles ferries were stormbound in port on Sunday as a heavy gale battered the islands.

Conditions reached a severe gale force nine at times today.

Gusts of around 60mph continued across open water for the main part of the day resulting in cancelled ferries for Lewis, Harris and North Uist.

No services ran on the inter-island route across the Sound of Harris.

The Eriskay ferry was also cancelled as conditions deteriorated.

The MV Lord of the Isles remained in Lochboisdale but is to attempt an overnight sailing at 7pm tonight with a call-in at Castlebay before running to Oban for a 5am arrival tomorrow.
