Ferries stormbound as bad weather hits islands      21/10/14

The MV Clansman is stormbound in Castlebay and her run to Oban is cancelled. The next ferry out of Barra is at 7am tomorrow.

Today’s 1.40pm run from Oban to Lochboisdale and Castlebay has also been axed. The next outward voyage is on Wednesday lunchtime.

Passengers with reservations on cancelled sailings should re-book alternative sailing.  

The Sound of Barra crossing is suspended with a review of the situation to be made at midday. The ferry service is on amber alert all day and is liable to further disruption.

All sailings of the MV Loch Portain across the Sound of Harris are cancelled today dashing hopes the weather would have calmed down briefly to allow at least one sailing

The MV Hebrides is on amber alert and her sailings liable to disruption at short notice.

She did not sail from Lochmaddy in the early morning but is due to run across to Skye at 11.30am. The vessel will then sail Uig to Tarbert at 2pm and depart Tarbert at 4pm for Skye.

Decisions on the rest of her timetable for today will be made later.

Though Stornoway harbour is sheltered from the high north westerly winds, the Minch seas are turbelent so the MV Isle of Lewis will remain in port all day with her two Ullapool sailings cancelled.

Stornoway freight ferry, MV Clipper Ranger, ran ahead of the incoming storm  in the early hours of this morning. She sailed to Ullapool to take freight lorries back to Lewis.
