David Tydeman, the chief executive of Ferguson Marine ship yard has been sacked as the company’s chief executive.

Mr Tydeman - who has been in the job for two years - had his contract suddenly terminated amid a revamp of senior appointments aimed at putting the company on a secure footing for its long term future.

His departure comes as a further delay with the delivery of CalMac ferry, MV Glen Sannox, is expected.

John Petticrew, an experienced shipbuilder and current board member, will step into the chief executive’s role on a temporary basis.

Both MV Glen Sannox and MV Glen Rosa should have been in service in 2018 on the lifeline ferry routes operated by CalMac, under the original contract between the Scottish Government and Ferguson Marine.

Building costs have regularly increased and are now in excess of £300 million total compared to the original price tag of £97 million.

Andrew Miller, chairman of the board at Ferguson Marine, said: “Ferguson Marine needs strong leadership to ensure its long-term future. The board recognised that action needed to be taken to restructure the current leadership team and it has taken these steps to address this.

“Our focus is on the completion of Glen Sannox and hull 802 (MV Glen Rosa), and the implementation of a robust business plan to improve the commercial viability of Ferguson Marine.

“With this new senior management team in place and a full complement of board members, we have the breadth and depth of experience and capability to drive forward these plans.”
