Energy minister to discuss heating costs at public meeting   16/2/14

Western Isles SNP have invited Scottish energy Minister Fergus Ewing MSP to speak in Stornoway and answer questions from the public about the issue of fuel poverty in the islands, and what an independent Scotland could do to address this.

The event, which is open to everyone, will be held in the Cabarfeidh hotel on Monday evening.

SNP MSP Alasdair Allan, commented: "Few issues cause such hardship and worry in the islands as the ongoing difficulties which many people have to heat their houses.

“A great deal has been done in recent years by the Scottish government to install central heating and insulate houses, but the problem remains worse in the islands than anywhere else.

"The public meeting with the energy minister is a chance for people to discuss these issues, and in particular to look at the opportunities which independence provides to ensure the islands have the energy policy they need for the future."
