Fair fuel petition gathers support             30/5/10

A petition calling for fair fuel prices to be a feature of the new Westminster coalition government has collected well over 1200 signatures in a matter of

days.

The internet petition set up by Erica Macdonald from Lewis is calling for the government to introduce a fuel duty regulator for rural districts in its emergency budget.

Ms Macdonald said a paper copy of the petition has also gathered support.

She said: “It is thrilling to see so many people actively collecting signatures for this.”

“Considering the high dependency on cars in this area, and with figures of people in fuel poverty rising, it is maybe not surprising”.

“People are eager in anticipation for a pilot fuel duty regulator

scheme to be implemented in the Western and Northern Isles.”

“The petition is ready to sign in many places in Stornoway, including the office of Angus Brendan MacNeil MP in Bayhead.”

“Other outlets in Stornoway which have the petition for signing include

Autoparts, Auto-Scott’s part shop, Aladdin’s Cave, Black Cat studios, the sawmill at Marybank, and Campbell’s service station on Rigs Road.”
