Hebrides News

The likelihood of powercuts has prompted Scottish Hydro to move extra engineers into the Western Isles ahead of severe weather.

Additional equipment and other staff are arriving off ferries.

Two storms with predicted hurricane wind speeds are expected to hit the Hebrides and the rest of North Scotland from early Friday morning through to Sunday.

The first storm - forecast to bring gusts of up to 100 mph - will also affect Shetland, Caithness, Moray Firth and Tayside.

The second storm, from early Saturday morning through to Sunday, could cause lightning and very strong gusts.

Scottish Hydro has transferred resources from its sister company in England to Scotland to minimise any disruption.
