Exile caused mayhem on visit home

13 March 2015

An island exile who caused mayhem on a visit to home to Lewis has appeared on court.

John Mackenzie, 61, of Loc Serrane, 20 San Severino, Macmerche, Macerate, Italy, pleaded guilty to three charges.

The 53-year-old admitted frightening two females who were residing at Scaliscro Estate lodge at the time.

The court heard he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly approaching and standing closely to them. He place a barricade against an exterior door, made intimidating and threatening remarks and turned off lights.

He pleaded guilty to driving carelessly on the Scaliscro to Einacleit road in July last year by driving his car cross the centre line, mount verges and repeatedly take his hands off the steering wheel. Mackenzie also accepted he failed to identify the driver of the vehicle to police.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond fined Mackenzie a total of £835.

He also imposed six penalty points on each traffic charge which means Mackenzie is disqualified from driving under the totting up procedure.
