Former policeman convicted of island rape 28/2/13
An ex-police officer has been found guilty of raping two women with one sexual assault
taking place Benbecula.
Stephen Cooperwhite, 35, of Paisley, was convicted after a jury trial in the High
Court in Edinburgh.
His first victim had been violently assaulted and sexually attacked at an address
in the Uists about ten years ago.
On one occasion he punched his victim on the head and hit her against a kitchen door.
Later, he became a police officer with Central Scotland Police and carried out similar
attacks on a colleague in Stirlingshire between 2009 and 2010.
The police force investigated and found out about the island rape.
Sentence was deferred to later in March for background reports. Cooperwhite was refused
bail and was remanded in custody.
Cooperwhite resigned from the police last year.
