Football governing body, Fifa, has designated Eriskay’s windswept football pitch as one of the top eight unique places in the world to play the game.

Now a game between two youth teams - Eriskay v Benbecula - has been filmed to be screened in the new World Football Museum when it opens in Switzerland next year.

Eriskay FC used to have a remarkable home advantage - a boulder embedded on the wing presented a formidable obstacle for opposing strikers - but that has now been removed.

But the rocky touchline and uneven surface leaves players often guessing which way the ball will bounce.

Fifa is understood to have looked at other Scottish locations - including Fort William - but opted for Eriskay because of its stunning seaward views and its scenic location, nestling between Prince Charlie’s beach and a craggy hillside.
