Equal rights for consenting adults 28/2/13
Sirs,
My parents brought me up to respect other people’s beliefs and religions and despite the fact I would consider myself to be an atheist with humanistic values and morals I vigorously and actively stand up for the right of Christians to practice their faith and hold their point of view.
Mr Donald J. Morrison of Inverness not only believes that his religion has a monopoly on morals, values and principles but he uses insults and derision to promote his anachronistic viewpoint.
The same verses he quotes tells us not to have sexual relations with those who are
infertile, to stone those who have practices Christians don’t agree with and in another
chapter altogether Paul tells us not to get married or have sex at all if we can
manage such self-
I don’t believe that all Christians wish us to hold the view of them as intolerant, prejudiced bigots. I do know Christians who are more concerned with loving their neighbour than casting stones and aspersions.
The agenda for equality is contemporary and it is right that we should consider every woman, man and child to have the same rights and considerations whatever their religion, belief or sexuality. (I will add, obvious as it may seem, that I am talking only of practices involving consenting adults).
I detest bigotry of any fashion. It makes me sad. It makes me sick to the heart.
