Electricity price postcode difference      19/10/14

Sir,

Oh dear, more politically-skewed bluster from our politicians. What utter nonsense from Cllr McCormack!

The regional variation of energy prices is no secret at all: why else do you have to give your postcode before you get details of the various tariffs available.

If you want to know what the price differential is like, all you have to do is give a postcode for Dundee or somewhere of that ilk and you'll know straight away.

Cllr McCormack is of course asking Central Belt consumers to subsidise those of us who live in areas that are more expensive to serve: in short, to add to their bills.

Do you think they'll be expecting us to pay a levy on our cheap island land/houses to make housing in the Central Belt more socially just! What would you think to that?

The problem with Cllr MacCormack's approach to issues like this, is that they are blinkered and selective, making much of those issues where we in the islands are in some way disadvantage, whilst remaining eerily silent on matters where we are better off. This approach does us no favours with those whose support we wish to recruit.

Stop whinging - it does nothing to promote the islands as a place to live, work and prosper. The population of the islands is growing, and that's because - all said and done, seen in the round - it's a great place to live.
