Drunk in charge of a child      1/9/10

An Alness woman has been placed on two years probation for being drunk in charge of an infant.

Brenda Stirling, 44, of 168 Milnafau, Alness, previously pleaded not guilty to the offence at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The car she and the child were in was involved in a smash with another vehicle near the Keose junction in South Lochs, Lewis, on Saturday 6th March.

Yesterday (wed) fiscal David Teale said police attended the accident and noticed Stirling was supposed to be taking care of the child but she was “unsteady on her feet. It was quite clear she was very drunk.”

Her lawyer said she accepted responsibility and regrets the incident.
