A Lewis man has been jailed for two years after he admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Police found a stash of cocaine nearly £8,700 of cash when they raided Kris Redfern’s flat in Stornoway at midnight on 31 March last year.

Some 41 grams of cocaine seized had a street value of £1600, Stornoway Sheriff Court heard.

Redfern previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court for sentencing.

The 26-year-old did not get involved to make a profit, the court heard.

Lawyer, Luke O’ Curry, said his client denied any intention of selling the drugs - which were “low quality” - to users.

He agreed to pay off people higher up the chain by selling for them but “had second thoughts.”

Two year prison sentence for drugs offence

About half of the £8,680 found in his house was borrowed from his parents while he had also sold motorcycles - all to raise cash for his debts and to avoid street dealing drugs, said the solicitor.

Sheriff Murdo MacLeod, QC, said drugs were a "ruinous blight on many in these islands and elsewhere.”

Procurator fiscal, Anna Robertson, moved to start legal proceedings to confiscate the cash found in his flat. A hearing is due to be held next month.
