DVD encourages safer driving 2/2/12
Every secondary school in the Western Isles is receiving a DVD of about a new road safety film aimed at new and young drivers.
The film focuses on the severe injuries and tragic loss of youth from driving too fast plus drink driving in the Highlands and islands.
Labour list MSP,David Stewart has presented the DVDs on behalf of the road safety group NOSDAT (North Of Scotland Driver Awareness team.
The film features people affected by car crashes, including the family of Callum Matheson, the Inverness teenager who was one of two young people killed in a fatal collision in the city during March 2010. The DVD shows shows the devastation Callum’s death has caused to the family.
Also featuring are oung people who have recently passed their driving test or are currently taking driving lessons.
The film is part of the campaign ‘Sensible Driving – Always Arriving’ which has two broad aims: to introduce a form of restricted licence for new drivers and to inform drivers that their passengers lives are their the driver’s responsibility.
David Stewart said “Thanks to the support of Stagecoach Bus whose donation has funded our short film, we are able to show the viewer, first hand, the devastation such a tragedy brings to families who suffer the loss of loved ones as a result of a road traffic collisions.”
