A motorist has been disqualified after driving without insurance.

Deivids Andersons pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The court heard the 22-year-old of Stornoway was caught after police spotted him driving with a flat tyre in Morison Avenue around 10am on 5 December.

They ran a computer check which showed the lack of insurance.

Andersons told the police it was his uncle’s car and he believed he could drive any insured car as in Latvia.

He accepted he had a previous conviction for a similar offence.

In addition to a three month driving ban, Sheriff David Sutherland imposed 30 hours of unpaid community work.
