An islander who swung a punch at a nightclub doorman and also shouted racial remarks to him has been banned from drinking alcohol for two years.

Ruairidh Finlayson of 123 Newmarket, Lewis, was placed on 24 months supervision when he was sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Friday.

The 38-year-old was also tagged and placed on a nightly curfew until April 2016.

He was also ordered to undertake 120 hours of unpaid community service work.

Finlayson was convicted of assault and of threatening behaviour from the incident which occurred in Point Street, Stornoway, in November last year.
