Drink driver nearly four times the limit      24/6/14

A drink driver has been disqualified for 18 months and fined £400 after being caught the day after a heavy drinking session.

Iain Macdonald of 4A Ardmore, Iochdar, previously pleaded guilty, to having a blood reading of 306mg against the limit of 80mg.

Despite a high count, Macdonald’s driving caused police no concern and his van was only stopped for a routine check, his lawyer told Lochmaddy Sheriff Court heard yesterday (Tues).

The 60-year-old did not “appreciate the substantial carry-over” from drinking the previous night, said solicitor Duncan Burd.

The first offender has “clearly built up a tolerance to alcohol,” he added.

Sheriff said took his previous good character into account.

He allowed Macdonald to pay at £5 a week.
