Motorist’s car may be destroyed for drink driving offence      20/1/12

A Lewis motorist faces having his car destroyed after he was caught drink driving.

Hon sheriff Roddie Mackay ruled that Scott Anderson Simpson’s car should be seized from him earlier this month.

The 42-year-old of 51 Seaview Knock, Point, will be sentenced next month admitting drink driving with an alcohol count of 118mg when the legal limit is 35mg limit. He was caught in the Newton area of Stornoway on 7th January.

Simpson has also pleaded guilty to careless driving by smashing into a parked car on Seaview Terrace in Stornoway on the same date.

It is the first case of legally seizing a vehicle of its kind at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Simpson will return to court when it will be decided if his car should be returned, crushed or sold.
