Drink driver avoids jail             20/1/12

A Lewis man avoided a prison term when he was sentenced for drink driving at Stornoway Sheriff Court this week.

The court heard Ronald Macdonald, 50, of 4A Lochside, North Tolsta, was stopped by police acting on a tip-off at 2.35pm on Saturday, 10th December.

The 50-year-old previously pleaded guilty to driving with a reading of 125mg against the legal limit of 35mg.

His lawyer acknowledged he could be looking at going to jail because of the high blood count.

Macdonald was banned from driving for three years. He was also placed on a community payback order for 12 months and must undertake 150 hours of unpaid work.
