A drink driver has lost his licence for 18 months after he was caught following a tip-off to police.

Officers were called to reports of a man driving white pick-up at Leurbost, Lochs, Lewis, on the afternoon of 12 April.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court Iain Mackinnon pleaded guilty to having a breath reading of 98mcg of compared to the legal maximum of 22mcg.

His solicitor told the court the 53-year-old oil worker of Dalmore had just come off the rigs the previous day. He had consumed alcohol into the early hours plus a further dram in the morning.

Sheriff David Sutherland disqualified the first offender and imposed a £600 fine to be paid within a month.
