Drink driver caught after tip-off     27/9/14

An anonymous tip-off led to an 80-year-old motorist being charged with drink driving.

Someone gave police information that John Macleod of 30B Arnol, Lewis, was over the limit.

Police headed to his house and though his vehicle was unoccupied and parked it was clear it had recently been driven, Stornoway Sheriff Court was told.

Macleod admitted driving with an alcohol count of 102mg against the legal maximum of 35mg on the Barvas to Arnol road on 13 September.

His lawyer Katy Begg said a friend had come round to his house earlier and alcohol was consumed.

Later, he drove to the local shop to buy a newspaper.

Sheriff David Sutherland banned from driving for one year and imposed a £300 fine.
