A Stornoway man has been banned from driving after he was caught over the limit.

Alexander Donald Campbell of Jamieson Drive, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Aird Point when he appeared at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The 70-year-old had a breath reading of 79 micrograms of alcohol compared to the 22mcg maximum.

Lawyer David Teale told Stornoway Sheriff Court that Campbell had been drinking on a Saturday 2 September and got a lift home.

That evening a cousin unexpectedly invited him for a meal so he took his vehicle.

The motorist behind was an off-duty police officer who alerted his colleagues

Sheriff David Sutherland disqualified him for 15 months.

He also imposed a £400 fine to be paid at £75 per month.
