A radio message alerted police to a drink driver in Lewis.

Paul Thornley of Keose, Lewis, was caught while driving on the Lochs Raod four miles outside Stornoway.

Police in the vicinity stopped him after a "call over the airwaves" that a suspected drink driver was behind the wheel of a car coming their way just before noon on Monday.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard Thornley give a roadside breath test. A later test at the police station gave a lower reading of 106mcg against the legal maximum of 22mcg - nearly five times the limit.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said he had a similar conviction within the last ten years. She was granted a motion to seize his Volkswagen Passat.

Sentence was deferred for background reports and Tornley is banned from driving until his next court appearance next month.
