A tip-off resulted in police intercepting a drink driver on his way to a social club in Ness in May, Stornoway Sheriff Court was told.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said a roadside breath test showed Alasdair Macritchie had a reading of 140mcg.

But the 63-year-old later refused to give a second sample at Stornoway police station, she added.

Macritchie of 3 Fivepenny, Ness, admitted the offence. He also accepted he did not have insurance.

Sheriff David Sutherland disqualified Macritchie from driving for four years.

He was also instructed to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community service work.
