Drifting ship taken under tow             7/4/14

A 53,000 tonne cargo ship has been taken in tow after drifting helplessly off the Western Isles since Wednesday.

The MV Eleanor D broke down with engine troubles some 150 miles west of the Hebrides.

The current pulled the powerless ship north westerly over the past five days.

The nine year old bulk carrier loaded a cargo of wood pellets at Galveston, Texas, bound for Newcastle in England.

Her owners chartered the MV Pacific Champion, from Swire Pacific, which was off the south of England, to tow her to Newcastle.

On Monday, the tow was passing north of Lewis on course to go through the Fair Isle channel between Orkney and Shetland.
