Doorstep sellers warning          16/10/14

Trading Standards are warning Consumers to be wary when dealing with doorstep sellers offering tarring work, household repairs and other services.

Earlier this year the law changed to give consumers 14 days to change their minds when buying goods and services from the doorstep. The seller must also give you notice of your cancellation rights and other information in writing.

A trading standards spokesperson said: “We would always advise not to sign any documentation or hand over cash to door to door salesmen.

“These sellers often use high pressure sales techniques and it can be difficult to get them to leave. It can also be very difficult to get a refund if services are unsatisfactory or if the seller has left the islands.”
