Trading Standards officers are reminding islanders that new laws give extra protection when buying goods and services from home.
These rules, replacing the Doorstep Selling Regulations, also apply to home improvement, repair and maintenance works.
Consumers who buy from traders who are trading away from business premises, for works costing over £42, must receive prescribed information including cancellation rights.
Prior to purchase, the customer should be told the business name and contact details, a description of the goods or services, how to pay , minimum length of contract and information about the right to cancel within 14 days.
