Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has recognised outstanding achievements in building design at a design awards event.

 

The aim is to recognise the contribution that well designed buildings bring to both people and landscape, whether they are using the building or viewing it while passing by.

 

Top awards went to buildings in Great Bernera in Lewis and three of the top four awards went to Harris.

 

The winners were: 8A and 8B Borrisdale; 2a Croir; Iomairt an Obain, 2 East Tarbert; and the Tarbert Hub.

 

Cllr Gordon Murray, the Comhairle's design champion said: “All of the developments we have awarded deserve recognition, and the high quality of design in the nominations is testament to the fact that those recognised are reaching an exceptional standard.

 

Full award winners were:

Housing – Self Design, 8A and 8B Borrisdale

Housing – Architect/Designer, 2a Croir

 

Commendations:

The Acres, Island Road and 12 Scaristavore,

Business / Non-domestic

 

Winner – Iomairt an Obain, 2 East Tarbert

Highly Commended - Daliburgh School

Commendation - Isle of Harris Distillery
