The first new independent dental practice established in the Western Isles in over 30 years has been officially opened today by Public Health Minister, Joe FitzPatrick.
The Castleview Practice in Stornoway is operated by dentist Sridhar Kalvakuntla.
The addition of the facility has helped eliminate the dental waiting list in Lewis.
The island was without an independent dental practice since the closure of Bayhead Dental Practice in 2014.
The closure left around 3,500 Lewis residents without a registered dentist.
Joe FitzPatrick, said the Scottish Government has invested in the practice and in the wider dental services in the Western Isles.
He added: “It’s encouraging to learn that there is no longer a dental waiting list in Stornoway.
“The oral health of primary school children has also seen significant improvement and the Western Isles now has one of the highest percentages in Scotland of primary children with no obvious tooth decay.”
