Around 3,000 dental patients will be affected by the closure of an independent dental practice in Stornoway.

Robert Purvis is shutting the dentist practice he took over from Mr Kenneth Macdonald in September 2014.

Dr Purvis cease to practice next month.

His patients will be automatically transferred to the Health Board Public Dental Service based at the Western Isles Dental Centre in Stornoway, until another independent practice is established.

The health board said new NHS dental staff have been recruited to ensure that appointments will continue to be available to patients of Dr Purvis in the meantime.
