Dementia Awareness Week is running from 1st-7th June 2015 and the theme this year is "Let's Talk about Dementia."

The local Alzheimer Scotland Lewis and Harris Dementia Resource Centre are running various events this week to raise awareness for the 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland.

It includes 'The Big Sing' on Tuesday in Stornoway Town Hall between 1-2pm. This gives members of the local community a chance to come along to join in with the regular monthly Singing Groups for a sing song and to chat and find out more about becoming a Dementia Friend. Alzheimer Scotland Lewis and Harris have expressed all are welcome to attend.

Service Manager Marion MacInnes said:"The worry that someone, perhaps even you, might have dementia is one of the hardest issues any of us will have to face. However, having difficult conversations about dementia – with partners, with family and friends, or with medical professionals – can make a huge difference to someone’s future quality of life. "
