Plans have been pushed back by two days to reopen the revamped A&E department at
Western Isles Hospital.
Final works and checks means the unit cannot accept patients on Monday as previously
arranged said the health board.
Patients will continue to be treated in the current temporary set-up within the hospital
until A&E becomes operational on the Wednesday.
In addition, the Acute Assessment Unit - which was shifted to accommodate the temporary
emergency department remains in the day surgery unit on level two until it moves
back to its original location on 9 June.
The new state-of-the-art new emergency department involved a £1 million investment
over 13 weeks of refurbishment work.
The work has resulted in improved availability of clinical space and has increased
the number of resuscitation spaces from one to three. One of the resuscitation spaces
is dual purpose and can be used as two treatment rooms.
A modern ventilation system has been installed in the department, which ensures 10
air changes per hour.
A new nurse call system aims improves safety and patient care.
