The Stornoway ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, has returned from her delayed stay at drydock.

The new £42 million vessel will not resume full duties until later in the week though she will undertake the overnight freight runs.

The Seaforth was held back by around ten days in returning from drydock on the Mersey.

She required upgrade work during her first drydock since she was delivered a few months ago.

The German-constructed ship was still under builder's guarantee.

She had work undertaken to centre her stern ramp, correct nagging faults, technical issues and any necessary adjustments to her propeller shaft and as well as "general service to systems and engines."

A new monitoring systems aims to save on the amount of fuel she burns.

The Seaforth is carrying out the freight run to Ullapool while the MV Isle of Lewis continues to operate the Stornoway - Ullapool passenger service until Thursday.

After an extended charter, the Northlink vessel MV Hildasay returned to Shetland on Saturday. This will be a reciprocal arrangement with the MV Isle of Lewis covering one of Northlink's dry dock periods on the Orkney or Shetland routes in early 2016.
