Bad weather has setback construction works at the Uig pier on Skye with the planned re-opening date pushed back by a number of days.
The pier is now re-scheduled to be back in action on Saturday 16 December as opposed to Monday 11 December.
“Considerable progress” has been achieved despite severe weather in November which contained two named storms, Ciaran and Debi, said harbour owner, Highland Council.
However, some of the critical works which allow the ferry to operate from the port remain outstanding. The removal of the existing fender system and installation of the new fenders have been delayed.
These activities require constant crane operations for welding and dive access with crane operations being delayed due to adverse weather, said the council.
To “avoid unnecessary uncertainty,” a decision has been taken to hold back the scheduled opening.
“This will allow sufficient time for the completion of critical works,” said Highland Council.
Harris will remain without a ferry service until the reopening with all Uig to Tarbert sailings cancelled.
The interim Lochmaddy - Ullapool ferry service timetable will stay in force until the works have been completed. This will continue to have a knock-on impact on Stornoway - Ullapool ferry timings.
