A potential lifesaving piece of equipment is now available for use on Scalpay.

A defibrillator or AED - which can be used on someone in cardiac arrest - has been installed outside the Scalpay Dental Clinic.

The device has been provided  through the Heartstart Harris group consisting of local people who have received training to become trainers, through Skye based charity Luck2Bhere and ofHeartstart Skye.

Defibrillator installed in Scalpay

18 November 2014

The device has been provided through the Heartstart Harris group consisting of local people who have received training to become trainers, through Skye based charity Lucky2Bhere.

This is the second defibrillator to be installed by Heartstart Harris into the local community. The other  is located outside the share entrance at Sir E Scott School.

This project has only been made possible by donations and fundraising from the local community. To date Hearstart Harris has received £5,500 from The Harris Charity Shop, The Cathy Macleod Trust and The North Harris Trust. This money has been donated to Lucky2Bhere in order to purchase more defibrillators and training equipment in Harris.

As well as providing emergency life support training with defibrillator awareness to members of the community, Heartstart Harris will now be involved in delivering this training to the local high school to ensure all pupils leaving school will have done at least one Heartstart course with defibrillator training added on.
