Canon Donald MacKay from South Uist has died at the age of 64 years.

He had been ill for a lengthy period.

For the past four decades he served as a priest, latterly at St Peter’s in Daliburgh.

Fr MacKay was also vice-rector of the Royal Scots College in Spain - which trained many Scottish priests - for a period.

When based in Oban, he was the parish priest of Princess Diana’s mother, Frances Shand Kydd, and was with her when she died.

Fr MacKay died on Sunday morning.
