Well known Western Isles solicitor, Simon Fraser, has died, aged 60 years.

Mr Fraser - who had a particular knowledge in crofting law and a passion for land reform had suffered ill health over recent years.

He was a solicitor and partner at Stornoway law firm Anderson MacArthur and was accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in crofting law.

He advised many community buyouts such as Assynt and Eigg.

Glasgow-born, he moved to Lewis in his teens.

He became a working crofter, married locally and brought up his family as native Gaelic speakers in Callanish, Lewis.

He is survived by his wife and their four adult children.
