Martin Taylor, who was councillor for the Benbecula, and North Uist ward on the Comhairle has died.
Mr Taylor, from Benbecula, was aged 67.
Comhairle convener Norman Macdonald, said: "Martin worked hard for his community and for the Comhairle even when, in his later years as a councillor, his health was deteriorating.
"Despite this he maintained a good sense of humour and was already ready with a witty comment.
Our thoughts are with Martin’s family and friends.”
The Comhairle’s flags are flying at half mast as a mark of respect.
