Former Stornoway councillor, Marie A. MacMillan has died after a short illness, aged 91.

Mrs MacMillan was a former town councillor before succeeding Albert Nicoll as councillor for the Goathill area in 1979.

She served on the Comhairle until 1986.

Marie was also chair of Western Isles Health Board for many years and was instrumental in helping to deliver Ospadal nan Eilean.

She was also a member of the Stornoway Pier and Harbour Commission.

Comhairle convener, Norman MacDonald, said: “Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

"Marie had latterly been living in Petersfield, Hampshire and is survived by daughter Moira, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.”

It is anticipated that the funeral service will be in Petersfield, Hampshire next week and a memorial service may be held in Stornoway at a later date.
