A teenager, originally from the Isle of Lewis, has been found dead in Inverness.

The body of Scott Campbell was discovered in a garden in the Culduthel area of the city, not far from his home, just before 10am this morning.

Police had been carrying out searches for the 16-year-old who had been reported missing after failing to return home after a night out.

It is thought he was on his way back when he was last seen about 5.15am on Saturday morning near the Tesco Store in Inshes.

A land and air search for the boy was being launched and its understood a RAF helicopter was assigned to help.  

Scott Campbell’s body was found between the supermarket and his own address.

His death is being treated as unexplained. A post mortem is due to be carried out on Monday. Police inquiries continue.

Scott Campbell was brought up in the village of North Dell in Ness, Lewis.

The teenager’s family are well known in the district as his grandfather - a Church of Scotland elder - used to own the Cross Stores village shop.

He lived in the Culduthel Mains area of Inverness. His friends and locals were involved in their own searches earlier on Sunday until dissuaded by police who feared large numbers of people in the area may have hamper specialist searchers.
