The final week of the Neil MacKay Lewis & Harris Darts League saw the following games played:


Sea Angling A 5 v 3 Sparrows

The five times consecutive league winners Sea Angling A opened with skipper Alex “Painter” Murray playing Amanda Campbell. The Painter (115, 100) beat Amanda (180, 120) 3 – 0, with Amanda’s first ever 180 coming in leg one, to put the A team in front. Rory was next to the oche for the A team where he faced Alex “Momby” Morrison.

 

Momby (180, 2 x 140, 128, 121, 3 x 100) levelled the match score after beating Rory (3 x 140, 123, 116, 4 x 100) 3 – 1. Rory’s 123 in leg 3 was his checkout finishing on a Bull, followed in the deciding leg 4 with Momby’s 180. The third game had the A team’s Willie Reid play Mairianne MacIver. Willie (180, 140, 2 x 100) regained the A team’s lead by beating Mairianne 3 – 0. Willie’s 180 was the third maximum of the evening in only the third game of the evening.

 

Jim O’Donnell was next up for the A team when he played Scott MacLeod. Jim (120, 3 x 100) lost the first leg but went on to beat Scott (7 x 100). This win secured the Rookie Of The Year trophy for Jim. The final singles game in this match had Murdo Alex for the A team against Finlay MacIver for the Sparrows. Finlay (140, 123, 101, 4 x 100) put the match score to 3 - 2 to the A team after beating Murdo Alex (140, 5 x 100) 3 – 0.This win secured the Player Of The Year trophy for Finlay.


The triples game saw the Painter, Alex Keiller and Willie play Momby (100), Scott and Finlay (128). Momby’s Bull finish levelled the score at 3 – 3 with only the two doubles games left to play.

 

The first doubles game had Jim (100) and Murdo Alex (102, 2 x 100) play Momby (100) and Finlay. Jim’s D16 finish put the A team back in front. Rory (100) and Alex Keiller then played Amanda and Mairianne to try and pre vent the Sparrows gaining a draw. Rory prevented the draw with his D1 checkout.

Sea Angling B 4 v 4 Rangers Club B
Heckles opened for the Danglers as he played Innes. Innes (4 x 100) put the Rangers Club into an early lead by beating Heckles (100) 3 – 0. Willie “Pegs” Davidson was next to the oche for the Danglers.

 

He faced Craig and Craig (120, 2 x 100) put the Rangers Club 2 up by beating Pegs (100) with a second 3 – 0 score. Wakey was next to step up for the Danglers as he plated Ross. Wakey (4 x 100) pulled a point back for the Danglers after beating Ross (125, 121, 2 x 100) 3 – 1 after Ross had taken the first leg. Babz was the Danglers penultimate singles player in this match when he faced Murdo.

 

Murdo (180, 140, 134, 3 x 100) put the match score to 3 – 1 to the Rangers Club by beating Babz (125) 3 – 1. The final singles game had Ted for the Danglers play Calum for the Rangers Club. Ted (123, 105, 4 x 100) beat Calum (140) 3 – 2. Calum won legs 2 and 3 to go in front before Ted triumphed and got a much needed point back for the Danglers.

 

The triples had Wakey, substitute Blondie and Heckles (116) play Murdo (2 x 140, 124) Calum and Ross. Calum’s D8 finish put the match score to 4 – 2.


The doubles started with Babz and Wakey (100) against Innes (140) and Murdo. A D8 finish by Babz made the match score 4 – 3 to the Rangers Club. This match’s final game had Blondie (100) and Ted (100) trying for a draw against substitute Gordy Mopp and Craig (140). The team sheet doesn’t show who scored the winner but the final match score was a draw at 4 – 4.

Rangers Club A 3 v 5 The Star
Stephen O’Donnell was first to the oche for the A team as he faced Don. Stephen (167, 2 x 100) took first blood for the home team after beating Don (100) 3 – 0. Stephen’s 167 was his checkout in leg 2 hitting T20, T19 and Bull. Terrific finishing there from Stephen. Ian “Bananas” O’Donnell was next up for this A team when he played Boozer. Bananas (125, 3 x 100) put the Rangers Club 2 points in front after beating Boozer (121) 3 – 0.

 

Kenny “Nini” MacLeod was this A team’s third player of the evening. He was up against Mark for The Star. Mark (140, 121, 100) pulled a point back for The Star after beating Nini (135, 133) 3 – 0. The Rangers A team then had Ian O’Donnell play The Star’s Jamie. Jamie (119) levelled the match score at 2 – 2, after beating Ian (2 x 100) in the fourth 3 – 0 score of the evening. Ewen MacLean was this A team’s final singles player and he was to play Gordon. Gordon (121, 112, 100) put the Star a point in front after beating Ewen (108, 100) in yet another 3 – 0 game.


The triples had Bananas (100), Stephen and Ewen play Mark (138), Gordon and Boozer. Boozer’s D19 finish saw The Star gain another point and put the Match score to 4 – 2.

 

The doubles opened with Stephen and Nini play Don (140) and Jamie. Jamie’s D10 checkout put the match score to 5 – 2 and secured victory for The Star. The second doubles game had Bananas (140, 100) and Ian (100) play Boozer and Mark (100). Bananas D8 finish made for a final score of 5 – 3 to The Star.

Golf Club 3 v 5 The Carlton
The leagues bottom two teams had it all to play for in this match as neither side wanted the Wooden Spoon. The Golf Club’s Stuart was first to the oche where he faced The Carlton’s Kay. Kay took 3 legs to take the first point for The Carlton. Jim stepped forward to be next up for the Golf Club when he played Ruaraidh. Jim made the match score all-square after beating Ruaraidh (100) 3 – 1.

 

Cal was the Golf Club’s third player at the oche where he faced The Carlton’s Neil Clayden. This game went leg for leg and it was Neil (100) who took the point for The Carlton after beating Cal (121, 2 x 100) 3 – 2. Next to play for the Golf Club was James who was to play The Carlton’s Davie Ross. Davie (120) put The Carlton 3 – 1 up by beating James (109) 3 – 1. Sander was this match’s final singles player for the Golf Club. He played Jackie who came off the substitute’s bench for The Carlton. Sander (140, 100) pulled a point back for the Golf Club after beating Jackie 3 – 0.


The triples had, for the Golf Club, Jim, James (100) and Sander play Kay, Davie and Neil. James checked out on D1 to level the match score at 3 – 3.


Both teams had it all to play for in the two remaining doubles games to try and secure some much needed points and avoid finishing the season on the bottom of the league. The first doubles had Jim and James (100) play Kay and Davie. Davie’s D20 checkout left a draw possible if the Golf Club could take the next game. It had the Golf Club’s father and son pairing of Sander and young Ciaran Peck play Neil and Ruaraidh. Ruaraidh’s D10 finish saw The Carlton win this match 5 – 3 and therefore leapfrog the Golf Club and go ahead on point difference.
