An islander who drove dangerously at 100mph received a one year disqualification when he was sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Alasdair Macleod, of 17 Upper Garrabost, Lewis, must pass the extended driving test before regaining his licence.

The 25-year-old who previously admitted the charge was also fined £600.

The court was told he drive at excessive speeds in the Stornoway streets, 80mph by Parkend and 100mph down to Branahuie on 4 January 2014.

At Knock, he overtook other cars when it was unsafe, causing others to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
