Hedgehogs in the Hebrides: What else are they eating?

Karen Varnham, University of Bristol Since their introduction to South Uist in the 1970s, the impact of hedgehogs on ground nesting birds, such as the lapwing and ringed plover, has been

well studied. However, these birds are only nesting for a few weeks each year, and very little is known about what hedgehogs eat the rest of the time. This talk describes research on South Uist over the last two years which is investigating the diet of hedgehogs and whether they are having a significant impact on other species.

Gerinish Hall, South Uist. Talk begins at 7.30pm.

plant material but a range of plants will be available.

Claddach Kirkibost Centre, North Uist. 10am to 4pm. Booking essential.
