Cunard’s newest’s luxury oceanliner has sailed down the Minch on her round-Britain
voyage.
MS Queen Anne is the latest addition to the shipping line’s fleet, their first in
14 years, continuing the legacy of luxurious ocean liners.
The 114,000 gross tonne ship was built in Italy and handed over to her owners last
month.
This week the vessel which caters for up to 3000 guests, plus 1225 crew, is undertaking
an inaugural circumnavigation of the UK, which saw her calling in at Edinburgh. She
also docked in Orkney.
Scenic views of Skye were promised on the west coast leg of the cruise but the ship
glided closer to marvel at the rugged cliffs of Point, the dramatic Pairc coastline,
majestic Scalpay, and the stunningly beautiful Shiant islands.
In command on the bridge was Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge, Cunard’s only female
captain.
Capt Thorhauge grew up on the Faroe Islands and started her Merchant Navy career
soon after she turned 16, working as a stewardess northern European trading cargo
ships.
On Saturday, the Queen Anne pops into Greenock followed by a visit to Belfast before
her big day in Liverpool when Cunard officially name the ship in a spectacular ceremony.
There are three other Cunard ships, Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria.
