Hebrides News

What would have been the busiest day of the cruise liner season so far for Lewis was cancelled due to the bad weather.

Two ships, the Azores and Sea Explorer, diverted from their planned calls into Stornoway today.

A fleet of coaches had been arranged to take cruise passengers on sightseeing tours around Lewis and Harris.

The 114-passenger Sea Explorer bypassed the island on her second last day of a voyage around the Faroes, Orkney, Shetlands and Hebrides.

She was at St Kilda on Saturday, Canna and Mull yesterday. The ship is now off Oban where passengers will disembark.

The Azores, carrying 512 passengers and 266 crew sailed northward past Lewis last night. She called in at Kirkwall in Orkney today.
